When travelling I make many small and spontaneous “sketches in stone” in situ, leading to an ever growing collection of small sculptures. Softer stones such as alabaster can be carved with my favorite Opinel knives, but carving in the much harder crystalline speleothem I collected in caves was much more difficult. Sometimes different materials are combined and metals are added, such as iron, lead or gold.
